The ancestor of DAM, the DMS module, offered an user all information about the versioned document, not only its descriptors and metadata but also the link to the binary itself the user could eventually download for review. Would you upgrade to DAM, you're losing the option to preview the binary. With the existing implementation it's however straightforward to offer a download action at the version dialog. Integrating a dam-preview extension might eventually be also nice.
