This issue was originally created in the workflow module, where users would like to not only get notified in the pulse, but also by email, if they have pending tasks. See linked ticket.

Here are some notes from the discussion:

"If enabling it in pulse, it should be configurable which kind of messages should trigger a mail:

      • work items trigger
      • info messages not"

"the notification settings should be part of the pulse, so the workflow can send a message to the pulse, the user then gets an email if the notification is configured that way"

"Kinda sounds like messageView might somehow/somewhen morphing into a messageHandler of sorts — how to view it (which already includes what actions to enable for it too) and how to ... "send" it"

"I'm not sure if I can relate that to messageViews, to me it sounds more like sending a notification to the pulse which then also sends it via email, or if it's configured to only send an email, then the notification is not visible in the pulse."

"given that we basically have four fixed message types INFO, WARNING, ERROR and WORKITEM (which will possibly be renamed to TASK) I'd propose to make configurable also for which type of message an email notif should be sent"

"which type, which user/group/role, which workflow step…"
