Improve List and Tree view (collecting super task)

      I've done a review of the List and Tree view as per Pascal's request. We'd like to significantly improve the overall looks and works of both views for the Alpha 1 release.

      This task either contains or references all tasks, bugs and improvement requests. Note that all of those apply to both the List and the Tree view until specifically mentioned otherwise.

      Please also note that the messages list in Pulse is just another list. What is shown there and how it should behave must be equal to how lists and trees look and work in apps.
