 Description

Summary

For a page under test, a web crawler will currently see one of the variants. It is unclear and probably depends on the crawler whether it will see the same variant on its next visit. We should better understand how ABn testing interacts with web crawlers and device methods to handle them (Slack discussion).

Goals

  • Investigate and document the ways how web crawlers interact with ABn testing in general and how some of the most prominent ones (Google, ...) do specifically.
  • Investigate how other ABn testing solution deal with this
  • Devise methods for excluding web crawlers from ABn testing. This should be simple for the most prominent crawlers and likely pre-configured. Other crawlers should be excludable via custom configurations.

Note: depending on the size of this ticket we can either file a follow up story for implementing the outcome of the investigation or turn this one into a story. TBD in grooming.
