 Description

I was introduced by AJ to the following (already installed) Jira plugin: https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/guides/advanced-roadmaps/overview#what-are-advanced-roadmaps

He has experience with it from a previous job and it appears to be a solution to the following long-time problem: Magnolia being an assembly of different modules at different versions, how to somehow bundle them together in one meta-release?

This touches on the following areas:

  • cross-team collaboration - how may one team autonomously add a module they own to the release?
    • this is currently done with the changelog, but it's an approach that we've been trying to evolve from. It's not user-friendly, requires developer intervention instead of PM's. Definitely not something we'd port to our cloud efforts, where we would actually also need to somehow bundle different projects under the same umbrella release.
  • planning - as the release approaches, how to track issues that are done vs. those that would be stuck and possibly prevent the release from happening on a given date?
  • release automation
    • we currently dissect the changelog and also monitor its updates with a cron job. However, while we made it work nicely, it's more involved than should be ideally.

The goal of this issue is to experiment with the plugin and its REST API and see whether it could be a fit for DX Core releases as well as have the potential to support future cloud efforts.
