When you create a new story, providing just the two required values (date is pre-set), the result also shows Jan 7. It is not clear where this value is taken from:

Investigate, check date saved in jcr, later check template in the demo.

Not an error, is part of the template, the stories in the demo requires date blocks to do some type of chronology. If you don't provide a date field block in the story then the template is missing information.
