How i18n works in Stories app

In order to set the right expectations for users who want to start using Stories App, we want to provide an overview of how the default settings have been set up. Stories App is one example of Content Editor and you can set up your Stories Apps with your preferred configuration. What we offer here is a starting point.

When you set i18n to true for Stories App, you are enabling you Stories to be internationalized. By doing so, authors will see the familiar locale dropdown menu with the pre-set locales at the bottom right of your Story (screenshot). Your locales will now be accessible and you can start adding your localized content "from scratch" ( "from scratch" is correct/clear enough  We need to let them know you start from a "blank canvas").

Please note the default behavior whilst considering Stories for your content planning and use cases:

Flexibility. Manage locales independently

In order to provide flexibility to your localization needs, we have integrated i18n to accommodate needs to edit and change the structure of your Stories independently one locale from the other.

Authors can edit, add, delete and re-order blocks independently for each locale.

Outline vs Blocks, i18n  behavior

Stories are composed of an outline and blocks.

Outline

The fields in the outline section behave the same as fields in any other content app.

  • if not i18n, just a simple field, no fallback
  • if i18n, show local (de)
  • if i18n and field empty, fallback to original local

Refer or re-use to the default configuration of Outline fields vs blocks, as per this table.

Blocks

Blocks are not internationalized by default

Blocks are not copied to your locale
