 Description

magnolia is not capable of bootstrapping large xml files from WEB-INF/bootsrap/common - trying to bootstrap a 40MB xml file into magnolia fails with a memory setting of 1GB for tomcat

Would http://www.mail-archive.com/user-list@magnolia.info/msg07623.html look like your issue? If so, the solution (at least until a fixed version of Jackrabbit is included in Magnolia) is to temporarily increase the thread stack space for the bootstrap and then drop it for normal operation. Add -Xss1024k to tomcat's startup for bootstrap only, then drop for normal operation.

wow - i suspected some fishier in the way we handled the import stream or something. If that's all that's needed to fix this, I'm sure the JR fellows would agree to merge this change to the JR1.4 branch.

This are tow 'separated' issue: one, the stack overflow, can be omitted by increasing the stack size (but revert that as soon as possible).

The other point is that the bootstrap uses a session import instead of a workspace import. So we might want to change that.

I put some memory save jsp scripts I used in the past into the community wiki:

apart from the StackOverflow problem which will be fixed in newer releases of jackrabbit I can confirm I was able to successfully import a 2GB (yes, 2GB) xml file into magnolia 3.6 with 1.2GB assigned memory... looks strange that you are having problem with 40MB

Given the thousands of other issues we have open that are more highly requested, we won't be able to address this issue in the foreseeable future. Instead we will focus on issues with a higher impact, and more votes.
Thanks for taking the time to raise this issue. As you are no doubt aware this issue has been on our backlog for some time now with very little movement.
I'm going to close this to set expectations so the issue doesn't stay open for years with few updates. If the issue is still relevant please feel free to reopen it or create a new issue.
