Unfortunately, only 1.4.1 is on the central Maven repository at the moment, so we can't update to 1.4.3 yet

I think javax.* can't be deployed on central repo for some license/political reason (that I don't know in detail), so I think it's improbable that newest version of javax.mail will appear in central repo.
If you want to update you should include java.net repo in your parent pom, but I don't know if it's acceptable...

Yes, yet some are synch'd to the central, some not, some on demand, some never. I'm not too keen on adding an Nth repo to our list of repos; will update once we have a Maven proxy (hopefully eta 1-2 months from now)
