Uhm, yeah, there's even a few 3.x releases out there too; how relevant it will be with Magnolia 5's ui is the real question.

The file "fck-2.6.6.patch" upgrades the fck editor to version 2.6.6. It was created with a magnolia-module-fckeditor version 4.2.3 from the trunk (checkout 2010-05-13). However there are many binary files that are of course not in the patch. So what actually worked for me was:

  1. Check out the magnolia-module-fckeditor twice.
  2. Replace the fck files in src/main/resources/mgnl-resources/fckeditor in one of the two checked out modules with the ones from a fresh FCK Editor 2.6.6 download. When replacing whole folders like "dialog" you will also loose the hidden svn files in the module. Therefore...
  3. After replacing the fck resources rsync the modified module with the unmodified - All modified fck files will be copied to the unmodified module leaving the svn files untouched.
Then you can simply build and replace the module in your Magnolia 4.2.3.

I have tested the following functionality:

  • Links to other Magnolia pages
  • Links to documents in the DMS
  • Links to uploaded Documents
  • Tables (new features here)
  • Inserting Uploaded images
The only thing not working was inserting an image from the DMS, but this has not worked for me in any version so far...

In the end, it was decided not to enable spell checking by default. Here is why:

1) Web SpellChecker provided by spellchecker.net has ugly ads in its free version
2) SpellerPages requires an separate php or perl setup
3) ieSpell was our last hope but when I tried to integrate it I found out that
3.1) it's free only for personal use, not for commercial use
3.2) forces you to download and install an .exe
