i think the attribute "contentNodeName" causes the problem. in <cms:editbar> "contentNodeName" must be set. but surprisingly <cms:editButton> does not require that attribute.

contentNodeName is non mandatory in both EditBar and EditButton. If set, it is used, when not set Resource.getLocalContentNode() is used instead.
