 Description

I am trying to setup Magnolia DX Core using the Magnolia CLI (pre-bundled tomcat). On my old laptop this was fast, easy and always worked perfectly. Now I got a new MacBook with Apple Silicon and after jumpstarting Magnolia, I start it and then Magnolia crashes (see hs_err_pid5601.log)

FYI: The platform of my JDK is arm64.
openjdk version "11.0.14" 2022-01-18
OpenJDK Runtime Environment Temurin-11.0.14+9 (build 11.0.14+9)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM Temurin-11.0.14+9 (build 11.0.14+9, mixed mode)

Steps to reproduce

  1. Run mgnl jumpstart
  2. Run mgnl start

Expected results

After the usual message that the Server start in xy milliseconds I expected Magnolia to be up and running.

Actual results

the usual message that the Server start in xy milliseconds and when I try to access the Author instance, Magnolia crashes.

Development notes

I have already contacted Tobias Kerschbaum and he proposed to try removing Periscope from the dependencies. So I removed the following jars:

  • magnolia-periscope-api-1.2.4.jar
  • magnolia-periscope-core-1.2.4.jar
  • magnolia-periscope-result-ranker-1.2.1.jar

from the directories below:

  • magnolia/apache-tomcat/webapps/magnoliaAuthor/WEB-INF/lib
  • magnolia/apache-tomcat/webapps/magnoliaPublic/WEB-INF/lib

Then I got the following exception and Magnolia crashed again:

Comment by Tobias Kerschbaum [ 31/Jan/22 ]

The partner reported by mail that it worked now. The solution was to remove only the jar "magnolia-periscope-result-ranker-1.2.1.jar" instead of all three.
