 Description

We should be able to add groups to groups, not only persons. Thats a common requirement for large installations (not a nice-to-have).

It's quite easy to implement it in the dialogs.

Sameer: shal I do it the same way as the group assignement by the users?

Comment by Sameer Charles [ 29/May/06 ]

yes I guess that would be the best!
I will update jaas login modules to read accordingly.

Philipp, some thought on this -

1- Do you think it makes sence to introduce special node types for User / Roles and Groups? it wont change much at the moment but already we could define these node types to auto create system specific properties needed.
2- I think it would be nice to keep UUID instead of path or name of the node. Big advantage of this would be that you can arrange users roles and groups in a hierarchy.

  • For this version we dont have to give possibility to have hierarchy in users/roles or groups but this change will serve as a basis for future. Only thing we need to adopt for 3.0 is save control, dialog (roles or groups) list presentation and authorization module.

what do you think?

also, referential integrity come for free with this!
You wont be able to remove a referenced role or group etc..

I don't have the time to do the changes for 3.0-rc1. Already to many issues ...

I think we should restist to make any changes if it does not block anything for 3.0

But we should plan this for the 3.1 or 3.5

  • Sub groups are supported
  • User roles and groups are collected as UUID instead of paths to allow renaming of groups and roles and better handling
