 Description

When activating a large set of items, it can take several minutes for the activation to go through. While this is occurring, the user is given no feedback on the progress of her activation request. It would be very nice to have the "Loading..." message that currently appears update once in a while to indicate percentage complete or something like "95 of 200 items complete".

Yes, the 2.x version of magnolia had the clock cursor while activating, and now nothing happens on the page, while in the console (log, etc..) there is info about exchanging the content.
This confused me yesterday, 'cause I thought it was over with the activation, so I started another one, and some exception occured. When I saw the tomcat console I realized that the previous activation is still going on.
Anything (progress bar, Loading..., counter) is a good idea

This is a bigger issue than it appeas in the first place: the proceed passes the item back to the workflow and returns imediately. The activation is done asynchronously by the workflow engine (maybe scheduled, ...).

The only thing you can do for now is going to the tree and checkt the green bulp of the pages.

Maybe a log viewer would help here (a tool where you can tail logs in the browser to check progress or simiilar)

I was actually referring to the case when Workflow isn't being used. In the case of a workflow, I wouldn't expect a progress gauge. However, without it, one has to watch a "loading..." message without any further feedback until it completes.

Given the thousands of other issues we have open that are more highly requested, we won't be able to address this issue in the foreseeable future. Instead we will focus on issues with a higher impact, and more votes.
Thanks for taking the time to raise this issue. As you are no doubt aware this issue has been on our backlog for some time now with very little movement.
I'm going to close this to set expectations so the issue doesn't stay open for years with few updates. If the issue is still relevant please feel free to reopen it or create a new issue.
