At the moment there is no way to get rid of the 'Enable commenting' bar in the articles. |

Isn't that simply a matter of not-installing the module ? |

You want to see the edit bar in some templates but not in all the articles, is not like I dont want it at all. |

How about a config option per template? Additionally, I think it would be more usable if commenting could be turned on/off in the page info dialog (for those templates that allow that feature at all). This way it doesn't distract you every time you look at the page. |

That could be solved with the enable flag, then is in the template definition either in the prototype or you can override that configuration per template definition. This way will work same as the areas. |

But if there's a per-template flag, and a global flag (i.e the module is installed or not), do we still need the extra per-page flag ? (the current "enable commenting" button, or page property) |

well, maybe you have a template article that you use in many places but you just want commenting in some of the pages but you dont want to create a whole new template just to have commenting or not. |

With the "extends" feature it would be trivial to define a template that has commenting enabled for an "article with comments" template. This also makes it easy to switch later. As comments are probably only useful for "article" style templates, this could work well. |

Given the thousands of other issues we have open that are more highly requested, we won't be able to address this issue in the foreseeable future. Instead we will focus on issues with a higher impact, and more votes. |
