 Description

Data module: you can not create a bunch of 'child nodes' and then just activate the parent, like you can in the website workspace. It would be a very nice improvement if you could do that.

The "incl. subpages" menu is active when data type allows folders. Otherwise there should not be multiple items under each other so there should be no need for activation incl. subnodes. For hierarchical types, you can configure "itemTypes" for the parent type and have those activated automatically with the parent hierarchical type so again no need for activating incl. subpages.
As far as I can tell, either your type definition allows creation of folders and you don't see the "incl subpages" in which case it is a bug, or your type is flat and doesn't allow creation of the folders and doesn't have subtypes in which case you should not be able to create sub items, and if you do, it is a bug, or you have hierarchical types and you didn't configure the item types for them properly to group the items that need to be activated together. Can you please provide more details?
Thx.

Hello Jan

It is the latter. I have hierarchical data types, and i didn't configure the item types for them properly to group the items that need to be activated together. What's more, I have no idea how to do that. If you could tell me, it would be a great help.

regards,

Ernst

There's a little tip on the docu at http://documentation.magnolia-cms.com/modules/data.html but I guess it is not enough.
Basically what you need to do is to specify comma separated list of the itemTypes that should be activated as part of the main type during activation on the tree of the main type.
Good example is config:/modules/data/trees/company. Company type define multiple subtypes and all those are listed there as well to ensure that when activating the company all the departments and employees are activated as well.

Given the thousands of other issues we have open that are more highly requested, we won't be able to address this issue in the foreseeable future. Instead we will focus on issues with a higher impact, and more votes.
Thanks for taking the time to raise this issue. As you are no doubt aware this issue has been on our backlog for some time now with very little movement.
I'm going to close this to set expectations so the issue doesn't stay open for years with few updates. If the issue is still relevant please feel free to reopen it or create a new issue.
