 Description

Feeds from Andreas' new blog (http://muxdxum.me/) are not imported into planet. I suspect that the issue is caused by a blank title tag in the feed.

Andreas has take a closer look at the feeds from http://muxdxum.me/ and reports:

I thought at first that this was because I haven’t set a title for the blog itself, but that's actually not the reason for those elements we see. There’s two places where those empty titles are coming from: 1) the channel title, which I don’t know how to set (it’s not the blog title); 1) the title for the „wordpress.com“ image, which I can’t seem to set anywhere (it’s being forcible inserted into the feed).

In the end, some valid options I see are:

  • if the <title> element is a mandatory element in the feed spec, then our parsers should not choke on it, if it’s empty, unless it also required that an actual title has to be set.
  • if the <title> element is not mandatory, then the Wordpress code shouldn’t send it at all. But I have no influence on that, however, can’t fix that code, since the blog is hosted on Wordpress.com.

One other thing I noticed is that the parser of the „Feedly“ service doesn’t seem to choke on the feed.

As a temporary patch for the issue, I've run the feed through Feedburner (http://feeds.feedburner.com/muxdxum/lmFm), which should clean the feed up enough to allow it to show on Planet.

Can't reproduce the problem with the (ATM) last 4.5.14-SNAPSHOT EE Build, using the http://muxdxum.me/feed/ URL. Planet probably needs upgrade of the module. Actually, Planet is running Magnolia 4.5.11 and rssagregator 1.4.3-beta1 - Tomáš has promised to upgrade to 4.5.13/1.4.3 next week (25.-29.11.), and as there is a bunch of fixes between 1.4.3-beta1 and final 1.4.3, I suggest to wait for this upgrade and check whether the problem disappears or not.
