 Description

It looks like the problem is caused by passing an empty string as a url argument to the XMLHttpRequest.open() function. Other browsers evidently don't care about it and assume the url is that of the current page. This has consequences not only on soft locking (which of course does not work anymore) but also on paragraph moving and other functionalities achieved with javascript.

I remember reading that in html5 they would change the meaning of url empty string, it will no longer mean the same page, this to eliminate unnecessary requests when an <img/> is set to src="".

okay, that could explain why it fails in IE8/9 (even though Safari, Chrome and recent FF did not complain about it).
