 Description

At the moment it is not possible to add asynchron actions. If i start a long running action i cannot use magnolia in this time.

Actually, you can do it (start a long running action) on your own (start a new Thread in your action's execute() method), but we should provide a framework for that. I've started a concept page for that: http://wiki.magnolia-cms.com/display/DEV/Concept+-+Time+consuming+actions

Thanks, Marvin, for reporting this. I've worked on a series of sketches and mockups to add notifications and support for long-running actions, also those triggered in work flows. We will discuss these internally soon. My goal is to to get at least a first working version of these feature into 5.1 still.

Hi Jozef,

yes i can do this as a workaround. But you have the same problem at your apps. e.g. if you go to assets and publish the root folder you will have the same behavior. You can't switch to other apps if the app is executing your publish action.
Think we should find a better solution here. It was possible in 4.5 and it should be possible in 5.0 as well.

Thx Marvin

Hi Marvin,

There is a concept for that: http://wiki.magnolia-cms.com/display/DEV/Concept+Long+Running+Actions and it's a candidate for the Magnolia 5.2 roadmap - see http://wiki.magnolia-cms.com/display/DEV/Magnolia+5.2

Feel free to both comment the concept and express your opinion on its priority in the roadmap page's comments.

Asynchronous actions are available since Magnolia 5.2.4 (see linked ticket for dependency), closing this issue as outdated.
