 Description

If you have many apps in a (open or closed) group, apps are simply hidden after reaching the maximum number of apps in a group (8 for open groups, 9 for closed groups).

Lowering the priority. There is a designed solution for this, but for now, we just live with having a max of nine (closed groups) or eight (open groups) apps. I'll keep this on the radar for 5.0.

Added some more flesh to the issue bone.

I'm adding a screen shot illustrating how I'd like to handle this. The solution is actually comprised of two steps:

  • if there are too many apps to fit in a single row, apps flow onto the next row. This is shown by the open "Migros app" group in the screen shot. We should probably restrict the maximum number of rows to e.g. 3 or 5.
  • if a closed group is opened and it covers the app icons of an open group, a vertical padding plus horizontal line visually separates the two

Please note the following:

  • the scroll bar also shown in the screen shot is not required. Since a usually closed group is open, there's no need to keep the open groups at the top still accessible: you can simply close the group again to access them.
  • the horizontal line only stretches to the right screen border, since we also show a scroll bar and it visually connects to that. In our case, the horizontal line should simply be as wide as invisible central element hosting the groups and apps.

In case this matters already: I actually want to show scroll bars for open groups eventually and if there are many of them. This is a simple, effective way to ensure the interface works in all circumstances and with all screen sizes. But that is a different topic.

I've described the designed solution. I don't think we necessarily have to implement this for 5.0, as it is not essential feature and there's a workaround for this (create more groups), but I we do have to solve this eventually.

Moving this to the maybe backlog as a nice-to-have.
