 Description

In a dialog I have to click

1. on the question mark to see another smaller question mark
2. click the smaller one to then get the help needed

This is just too many clicks and the info is hidden to the editors - who are supposed to see the hint.

Good ideas area:

  • bring a "force-description" mode for all dialogs, which directly shows the description texts for a specific dialog
  • just use the smaller question marks - and do not use the big one above anymore

See screenshots.

Rainer, yes, we're going to far here to make the forms appear clean. We've already discussed this some time ago, and have done so again after you've filed an issue.

Here's the plan.

  1. We always show a light, unobtrusive help icon next to fields offering help. Clicking it reveals the field description, clicking it again hides it again. Work on such an icon will start soon.
  2. Click on the "?" in the header always shows/hides all descriptions and the dialog help text.
  3. We're also considering making the above behaviour sticky across all dialogs - help is shown in all dialogs, if activated in any dialog header. This would be a convenient way for users to get to know the setup of your project and Magnolia in general.

FYI, our documentation team is currently going through all help texts and field descriptions everywhere to ensure the default help given makes sense and is of high quality. This also means that help texts will be removed, which make no sense or are redundant. This will serve as a great first step to implement 3) - if help texts are always visible, they better be good.

Now all commits from the sub-tasks (MGNLUI-2719, MGNLUI-2720, MGNLUI-2721) are aggregated and squashed into one.
They are committed onto "MGNLUI-2661-integration"-branch; see https://git.magnolia-cms.com/gitweb/?p=magnolia_ui.git;a=commit;h=808740de7ac65025a1d36fa914258ad21bfdbeee .

re-resolving as it had only been reopened because of it's sub ticket MGNLUI-2720

Comment by Christoph Meier [ 22/Apr/14 ]

The ticket (2720, 2721) is still not 100% following the pattern which was required.
But beside cases where there is more than one tab, it works fine, and for the release, we will close it now.
But there is a follow-up ticket which has to take care again; See MGNLUI-2811.
