 Description

If you switch views, we do maintain the current item selection - at least for single selection, this doesn't yet work for multiple, selected items (see MGNLUI-2921).

However, the selected item is not always visible, if you switch views. You thus often have to scroll to find it. The selected item should, however, always be in sight. If multiple items are selected, the first in the set should be visible.

If we can fine-tune this, the selected item should be positioned at the end of the upper third of a list (not in the middle).

Linking to a problem reported against favorites, that is at least related.

Please see also linked issue MGNLUI-2926: Federico has made some research that seems to suggest that this could be a FF-only issue.

For 5.3, Sasha has implemented a small JS-let that scrolls the selected item into view. This now seems to work reliably, if you switch between some, but not all views.

Here's what I've found working and not working in 5.3:

  • works if you switch from thumbs/list/search->tree
  • doesn't work if you switch from list/search->thumbs
  • doesn't work if you switch from tree->list/thumbs

Also, it would be great if the selected item could be positioned at the end of the first third of the list, not in the middle as it currently is, as this corresponds more with the typical field of view.

As of 5.3.5, this works for single items being selected.

The issues remaining are with multiple selected items, which is mainly captured by MGNLUI-2921.
