 Description

isadubach has shown me that she can't abort the move operation on the corporate website in some browsers. She starts by selecting the component edit bar, then clicking on the move icon. This causes the bar to attach to the mouse pointer. Isa solves this by reloading the page in order to abort the "move".

I've verified this with a set of recent browsers and have updated the findings accordingly. The c*urrent status with 5.4.1 is that clicking on the background seems to work in all browsers I've tested, while ESC only works in Firefox*.

In OS X 10.10.5 (14F27), tested with MTE /travel/about page:

  • Safari 8.0.8: clicking on bkgr works, ESC doesn't work.
  • Firefox 40.0.3: ESC and click on bkgr works

On Windows 10 (11.31193.0), tested with MTE /travel/about page:

  • Internet Explorer 11.0.22: Clicking on bkgr works, ESC doesn't work.
  • Microsoft Edge 20.10240: Clicking on bkgr works, ESC doesn't work.

I've tested this using my browsers and on the demo project on demo.magnolia-cms.com.
The results were:

  • FF 32.0: I can abort an icon-initiated "move" operation using both methods.
  • Safari 7.0.6: I can click on the background, but not hit ESC
  • Chrome 37.0.2062.94: I can click on the background, but not hit ESC

Since the results are different, part of this behavior could actually be caused by the way our templates work or by installed browser plug-ins.

Original findings by isadubach were:

Normally, you would now be able to click anywhere on the background or hit ESC in order to abort the operation. However, in her case, she

  • can't do either in Chrome Version 37.0.2062.94
  • can only hit ESC, but not click on the background in Firefox 31.0
