 Description

When having long lists of pages only a part of them is displayed at the same time (paging). Therefore you cannot use the search function of the browser to search for items.

In this case, Magnolia search doesn't help either because it's searching all pages in the system and normally the result is an even longer list (which also can be searched only by scrolling).

Real world example:

On the root level there are 500 folders, which contain the websites of university institutes. For sysadmins this list is the entry point for the work with the single websites (if they can find them).

Proposed possible solutions:

  • Extend search with an option to only search the current level / the potentially visible items.
  • Optional: No paging: The whole list will be loaded and searchable with the browser search.

We would propose to solve this within the project. The solution could be like this:

Add a custom action to the page editor displaying an edit field for admins where they can type in the place they want to navigate to. After choosing the destination and closing the dialog, the main list view is navigated to the (manually) entered destination.

This would be a handy shortcut for admins to enter a specific location in the pages app.

As it is not a common need at the moment, we will not integrate it in the product (yet).
