The required sign should really be decoupled from the label and have its own "column" for that reason. This issue actually also affects the language key in brackets. On hover you can see the full string with asterisk and (lang) but what about tablets?

One interesting approach I've seen more and more applied (OS X for one) would be to abbreviate long texts in the middle, which could result in something like "Headline ... foo * (en)", thus making the start and the end of the text visible. Still this doesn't solve the on hover issue with tablets.
