 Description

We've designed new status icon to visualize the activation status (published, changed, unpublished) for quite some time. Apart from using colors, these icons also have different shapes. This helps color-blind users, but also increases legibility significantly for regular users.

We've been using the new icons in the status bar of the page editor for some time already. We've also started using them to indicate the publication state of components in the page editor. Now, we want to use it in columns everywhere.

It seems that this is quite easy to do since the visual representation of the activation state is determined in a single place.

1) Solution: Update CSS classes in status column formatter.

  • Remove "icon-shape-circle" from activationStatus because it contains circle style.
  • Respectively add new classes "icon-status-orange", "icon-status-green" and "icon-status-red" to activationStatus in "switch-case" to update the new icons.
  • Update unit tests.

2) Modified files:

  • magnolia-ui-workbench/src/main/java/info/magnolia/ui/workbench/column/StatusColumnFormatter.java
  • magnolia-ui-workbench/src/test/java/info/magnolia/ui/workbench/column/StatusColumnFormatterTest.java

3) Impact:

  • Everywhere has activation status columns.

Thanks,

  • Don't forget to move the tickets, get some help if you don't find the correct modules
    • content-dependencies and activation are different modules, so you'll have to split tickets
    • for "others", I suggest to move it to "DEV" project, I'll make sure the czech team is aware of it
    • make sure all those follow-up issues are linked to this one as "depends upon"
  • We will discuss and comment code on the PR
  • Why I was mentioning icon-shape-circle is because that's *the* class which we replace here, so I'm glad no UI test depends upon it
  • I agree icon names are not perfect, but they are generated with the icon-font (from SVG source files), so unless I request special changes in those sources delivered by designers, we cannot change them just once (next delivery they would be wrong again).

Hi i like the new style. But found also another status which could be impoved as well in a future release.
Our Customers have often the problem that they want to know when a publishing workflow is initiated. So it would be cool to see that the workflow was startet on the change.
