 Description

In a list, if I open the menu to select which columns should be visible, the order of these entries reflect the order of the visible columns. If I now deselect a particular column (e.g. "Template" in the attached screen shots), the menu rearranges itself and first lists only the visible columns, then the not visible one.

I'd prefer if the menu would retain the order in that list. Furthermore, it is not immediately apparent that the order follows the order of the visible columns (the columns appear horizontally, the list arranges them vertically, so there's no immediate connection between the two).

In OS X Finder and in Windows, this menu looks like this:

The order here is also the order in which the fields appear, but both menus don't rearrange the entries based on their visibility.

For Magnolia, I'd like to make the following changes:

  1. the list order the entries alphabetically: that makes it easier to find the column I want to hide
  2. the list maintains that order, even if I hide a column. That column then is simply marked as no longer visible.

The first point is actually debatable, but I'm positive that it's easier with lists larger than five items (a typical limit) to find the column you're looking for. Even though the two biggest OSes don't do it that way, yes.
