 Description

We use tab names like "EDIT Andreas Weder", "PREVIEW /about", "EDIT /about" and "ADD untitled" for sub apps currently. I'd like to change that to use icons instead of those action names, because:

  • More space is available for the item title.
  • We can use icons to neatly indicate the state a session is in (edit or preview) and without changing the tab.
Which makes it instantly apparent what state a sub app is in without you having to read anything.

In order for this to remain useful, we should restrict the number of icons we allow to be used to only a very small set. I'm thinking of:

  • the plus icon, when new items are added
  • the stylus icon for edit sessions
  • the eye icon, when a session shows an item preview

We might find we need one or two more icons (e.g. for a diff view). But for most uncovered cases, we would not use any icon at all, but simply show only text.

Please find attached various visual designs showing such tabs.

weder mmuehlebach That oldie survived into the backlog for ages, yet description is outdated; we removed the EDIT/PREVIEW verbs long ago.
Do we still want to add the icon & make detail sub-app titles lower-case nonetheless?

—EDIT: Roger, let's do this. Was reportedly kept in the backlog on purpose (cc ahietala)

khuong.nguyenduy: As result of QAs and confirmed even you did check before, Sitemaps and Resources app do not view the icon correctly, Please create 2 follow-up tickets.
