Freemarker error on the page when I delete an image

Steps to reproduce

(video)

• Add an image to e.g. About page 
• Publish the page 
  • All good on public and in author 
• Delete the chosen image, and publish the deletion

Actual results

• On Public, the entire component has disappeared 
• In Author the page has the freemarker error, rendering the page unretrievable 

Desired results

• In author, I should see the Page, and I can choose to upload a new image with the asset's chooser dialog
• On Public, I should still see my component and a broken link as the image is no longer available
