Dynamic column filtering is a simple to use and understand concept to reduce the number of visible items shown in a list or tree. Together with searching and sorting, this feature will be powerful tool to deal with the sometimes huge amount of information a user has to skim through.
Dynamic column filtering is described on this concept page: http://wiki.magnolia-cms.com/display/UX/Filtering+a+list+of+items
Also on that page is a mockup showing how the controls to enable filtering and for choosing the columns to show go and work together. An actual visual design does not exist yet.
In a future step, we'll provide a way to save the set of inputs to search, filtering and sort settings in a query, which can be re-run at a later point in time. This will enable the user to create custom views and maybe even apps, will be one cornerstone of the much requested reporting and saved lists functionality.
